Hello September!

"'Tis the last rose of summer,
Left blooming alone;
All her lovely companions
Are faded and gone." -Thomas Moore, The Last Rose of Summer, 1830 (source: gardendigest)
While taking a break from school work (sadly, my school doesn't start three weeks into September like some), I stumbled across this quote.  The idea that September is the last we will have of summer is quite daunting, it is also a chance to start new; to start fresh and put the past behind you.  While you may feel like you are "left blooming alone" still hanging on to summer, look at it as a way to reinvent yourselves.  Don't let anything stop you this year.

Instead of doing an August favorites post, I thought a guide would be perfect since the fall season is coming up just around the corner.  Before we head into the colder months of fall, don't be afraid to rock some of those summer items you have.

Check out this outfit.  The dress is totally something you wear during the summer, but the leather jacket and black wedge booties completely transform it.  They add an edge to the outfit, and the darker colors speak more to fall.  The leather jacket is always looked at as more of a cold weather type item - it would be way to hot to wear it during the summer.  It's probably different than most peoples' styles, but there is no reason you shouldn't try it.  Quite frankly, I think its adorable!

Hanging on to Summer

Then again, it does get cold eventually ;(  So in that case, try an outfit like this.  Its cute, but warm and comfortable.  It doesn't look like you're trying to hard, but you still put effort into it.  The mustard yellow pants are SOO a fall color!  And the sweater is sure to keep you warm for those windy days!

Preparing for the FALL!

So, as I must leave you now, I must say I am quite excited for fall.  Can't wait to get jump in piles of leaves and eat some pumpkin pie!

As always,
xoxo Kinsey

Back to School

Hey guys,
I just wanted to update you really fast.  Karlie has sadly left me alone to die and rot while she goes venturing off into unknown territories :(  As cool as that would seem, she actually has just gown away to school...so for the time being, it's just going to be me running this blog!

But back to the subject at hand....
It's that time of year again.  The time when we must switch out our summer clothes to prepare for the dark and cold months to come.  Haha, I'm just kidding guys (unless of course you live where the weather patterns change very drastically).  I know some people dread going back to school, but I kind of look forward to it.  Not the homework part of course.  I look at it as an opportunity to show off your personal style, unless you have a uniform.

Going back to personal style, don't be afraid to try something new.  Find out who you are through fashion and clothes.  Want to venture out of your comfort zone and try something edgy?  Go for it!  Better now than never.  Take this look for example.  The embellishments on the dress might be going out of the box for some, in which case you could pair it with oxfords and a tote bag.  However, the combat boots and black leather bag speak to the edginess everyone has inside of them.  Be daring!  Be bold!  It might change how you look at things in the future.

Back to School #1

On the other hand, dresses period might be to far out of the box.  You know when you just have those days where you just want to wear sweats and a t-shirt, but you still don't because you want to look cute?  Try this outfit.  Leggings or yoga pants are a perfect alternative to sweats!  They are comfortable and cute!  Pair it with any oversized sweater you have - the tight fit of the leggings prevent the look from looking to slobbish.  Take any of your favorite accessories to dress it up a little and you're good to go!  You can even take a pair of moccasin slippers and it'll look super cute!!

Chill Days

And finally, for those days where you just take something from your closet and throw it on.  Jeans are staples in everyone's closet (if you don't own a pair, I highly recommend you go out and buy some...like NOW!)  They go well with anything, and I'm serious when I say ANYTHING!  If you're feeling casual, go with a simple solid v-neck or t-shirt.  But in case there is ever a time when you want to impress a certain someone, try an outfit like this!  Wear a bandeau under this sheer top to show a little, but not too much.  Or just wear a simple cami  under if you feel more comfortable.  The dangling earrings will draw more attention to your face, which is always good!  The bangles are a nice accent, along with the bows on the flats.

Back to School #2

So, whether your style is preppy, edgy, classy, or just whatever you feel like, go out of your comfort zone.  Don't be afraid to try something new...it might help you find you who are in the end!

Chill Days

Chill Days

This is definitely an outfit I would wear on a daily basis.  Its casual and laid back, but the accessories help dress it up a little.  The leggings and sweater are simple, so they don't clash with the jewelry.  I have a pair of these moccasins, and I will tell you they are some of the best shoes I have ever bought.  They are absolutely amazing and soo soft and cozy.  I for sure can see myself wearing this once winter comes around.  All I need is this adorable peter pan colored J Crew sweater!  Let me know what your favorite casual outfits are in the comment section below!

July Favorites

Blue - Kinsey
Purple - Karlie

The Amazing Spider-Man - Spider-man has always been one of the greatest superheroes, but it just gets better having Andrew Garfield play Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy.  They're the cutest couple ever and are perfect in this film - their chemistry is so real and allows for the viewer to connect with them.  If you haven't seen this already (or even if you have) you should go see it again, or just buy it so you can watch it on repeat :)

The Dark Knight Rises - I can't express how much I love this movie.  It was an epic ending to the trilogy.  That's all I can say - I just simply love it.

The Fault in Our Stars - I'm sure many of you have heard about this book, but for those of you who haven't, it's a must read!  John Green takes you through a journey with two cancer patients who fall in love.  1) Who isn't a sucker for romance novels? and 2) The ending is absolutely heartbreaking (don't worry, I'm not giving anything away - you'll have to read to find out for yourself).

Minnetonka Moccasins - I recently purchased a pair of Minnetonka Moccasins and they are the most amazing pair of shoes ever!  It's currently summer where I live so it's too hot to wear them out, but they make great indoor slippers!  I cannot wait for winter to come so I can wear these everywhere(:

Steve Madden Eltonn Flats (Bright Multicolor) - I LOVE these shoes!  I recently saw them discounted at a local store and wasn't quite sure if I should buy them.  After going through possible outfits I could pair them with (yes, I do this) I decided they would be a great purchase!  You should definitely pick up a pair(:  They are bold and outside of the box...not what most people would expect!

ModCloth Game Night Guest Dress - I absolutely adore this dress!  The exposed zipper and cutouts in the back are gorgeous!  It adds an element of surprise that will be sure to wow everyone else!  The color is probably what makes me love it most - I've had an obsession with teal recently and finding this dress was just amazing!

dELiAs Mint Lace Dress - I love this dress!  The mint color is gorgeous and not TOO minty.  It is almost more like a mint blue green but still brilliant!  The style feels more old fashioned (at least to me because of the lace and cut), which is something I'm recently getting more into.  Go ahead and be bold - dare to channel your inner Audrey Hepburn.

And of course, since the Olympics have started, here are some of our favorite Olympic events:

  • Gymnastics
  • Swimming
  • Diving
  • Track and Field
  • Volleyball
  • Basketball

Jacquelyn Jablonski

Jacquelyn - where to begin.  She's been my favorite model for a while now, probably for her unique look.  Her strong and bold eyebrows set her apart, along with her more almond shaped eyes.  Her ultra dark hair and green eyes aren't a combination you often see on models, and she seems to be in all of the big shows lately.  My favorite look was the pale blue long sleeve dress with gold details she wore in the Elie Saab Haute Couture show at Paris Haute Couture Week 2012/13.

She also looked amazing in the Chanel Haute Couture show.  The bright red compliments her pale skin tone and the color of her hair.  The black hair piece makes her hair to appear lighter than normal and is a nice change.

What do you think?  Who are your favorite models?  Let us know in the comments below(:

Street Style: Day in the City

A great day in the city always starts out with the perfect outfit.  Something stylish but still comfortable and laid-back.  Especially during summer, you can never go wrong with colored pants.  Slightly cuff them for that effortless vibe and you're good to go.  Plus, you won't have to store the faded maroon pants with the rest of your summer wardrobe - the dark hue is perfect for those windy fall days.  While leopard print can sometimes be overpowering, the neutral tones in the pattern go great with the dark pants.  Not too busy, but still draws your eye in.  Take any black shoes you have lying around the house with your favorite tote bag and you're off.  Don't forget your favorite pair of shades to protect those gorgeous eyes!

Dior ADDICT

I haven't smelled or tried out this fragrance, but I have definitely fallen in love with the ad.  Daphne looks absolutely gorgeous in this!  I never realized how young she is - Daphne just seems so much older than 17 (not in a bad way).

The music and location are also perfect!  The music is so upbeat and puts me in a good mood (I have to admit I have become obsessed with this song -I Love You, Ono by Stereo Total- in the past few days).  The scenery looks amazing and I wish I could be at those beaches or waterfront!

The styling is also great for the ad.  I love the swimsuit Daphne wears in the beginning - the high waisted swimsuit gives it a retro vide and the heart shaped sunglasses are adorable!  Let's not forget the the red skirt she wears at the end!  I would kill for it.  It kind of looks like a leather skirt to me, but it seems to have way more movement than a leather skirt would.

I was able to make this set that seemed to resemble that styling used in the video.

Paris Couture Week 2012

Paris Couture Week is definitely something you want to keep your eye out for in the future.  The gorgeous beaded dresses and over the top outfits pull you into the minds of the designers.  As expected, the designs were all over the place, from Jean Paul Gaultier's designs were over the top and out there to Elie Saab's classic, elegant gowns.

Jean Peal Gaultier

Gaultier took inspiration from musician, writer, actor, and artist Pete Doherty.  The line featured mainly dark colors, especially black and was centered around furs, capes, and collars.  The collection no doubt reflected Gaultier's out of the box thinking and dramatic style.

Frank Sorbier

One of the collections that really caught my eye was Frank Sorbier's.  I had never heard of this designer before, and I sure wish I had.  His backgrounds painted a picture along with the gorgeous dresses.  The silhouettes of the dresses remind me of cut out paper dolls I used to play with.  The dresses look as if they are glowing, appearing like a light in the middle of the night.

Elie Saab

Jacquelyn Jablonski

Elie Saab is by far my favorite designer!  His designs are always so intricate and detailed and look perfect for a dressy occasion (however, they probably are over the top).  I especially love the dress on Jacquelyn Jablonski - the gold and light blue are a perfect combination.  The gold makes the dress look fit for a princess, but the light blue tones it down with a more subtle color.

While I wouldn't say I love every single collection from Paris Couture Week, there were definite highlights.  The creativity was there as always and I can't wait to see what these amazing designers will come up with next year.

Hope you enjoy fashion week as much as I do!
